Coming Up Next Week
No Letter of the Week
Theme: Thanksgiving
The children voted on their next "marble jar" reward. It will be a Polar Express PJ day. We will inform you of the date after we fill the jar. This week was "U" week. The children earned two extra marbles today because everyone one turned in their homework for the letter "U".
- We reviewed the 6 letters that we have learned. We named the letters and said their sound (or sounds). All of the children could benefit from reviewing at home. This may be something you could do with your child each night as part of their bedtime routine.
- We learned letter "U". We did a page in our workbook and also a "U" worksheet that also reviewed the letters we have learned.
- We continued work on our "3" booklets.
- The children were introduced to "10 frames" using squares from the "Get Set for School" Math and Numbers curriculum. We did an activity called 'Match My Number'. The children we shown a card with square and they were to make the same array on their card. We talked about how many squares they covered and how many remained empty. Some photo to follow.
- The children played "Turkey Tally" in which they counted tally marks.
- The children clapped out syllables in words. We used foods from our grocery store and clapped out syllables. For example: ba-na-na 3. Then they sorted the foods into grocery baskets according to how many syllables in the word.
- The children matched Upper and Lower case letters.
- The children practiced using ordinal numbers. They had to guess if the turkey was hiding under the first, second, third, forth, or fifth cup.
- The children did 2 self-directed art projects. The children were given instructions before we began center time. They needed to listen to the instructions and follow the steps to complete the project on their own. They did an awesome job! One day they cut out circles and added eyes, a beak, and feet to make the bodies of the turkeys we have on the bulletin board. Another day they chose a light or dark green corn husk, wrote their name, cut out an ear of corn, and glued the ear on the husk. Later in the day they finger painted the kernels onto the ear of corn.
