This week:
We read the story of Red Riding Hood retold by James Marshall. We also read Little Red's Riding 'Hood. (Little Red is a red scooter, Granny is a golf cart, and the "wolf" is a monster truck named Tank.
Tuesday:
We read The Three Little Pigs by Paul Galdone. We did some "Huffing and Puffing" during science time. Using a collection of items from around the classroom, the children chose an item and predicted whether or not they would be able to blow it across the table. Then, using a straw, they tested their prediction. Slide show:
On Wednesday we continued our study of the "three pigs." We read The Three Little Pigs by Bernadette Watts. This is a much kinder version of the story. No one is eaten or boiled. Then the children worked in groups of 3 to do puppet shows of the Three Little Pigs. Interestingly all 3 groups chose to follow the kinder story line. Here is a slide show of the puppet shows:
On Thursday a mischievous girl named Goldilocks entered a house in the forest....
First we read Goldilocks and the Three Bears by James Marshall. Later we read Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems. At "book on tape time" we listened to Goldilocks Returns by Lisa Campbell Ernst. (Many years later Goldilocks returns to make amends, but the bears are not very happy with the changes she makes to their house.) In the afternoon we read Goatilocks and the Three Bears by Erica S. Perl
On Friday we read The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Paul Galdone. The children colored troll masks and acted out the story. We even had a "sound effects" person who used claves to make the "trip-trap" sound of the goats crossing the bridge. Here are some photos:
