Coming up next week:
This week we continued to learn about Spring and began learning about seeds. We "planted" bean seeds in plastic bags and are hoping to see them sprout. Here is a slide show of the children working together to plant and water the seeds: The children began "Seed Journals" that they will continue to work on as they see the seeds beginning to grow. On Friday we opened some lima bean seeds. We looked at the different parts of the seed: the seed coat, the root and leaves of the "baby plant", and the rest of the seed that is the food source for the growing plant. "V" week would not be complete without a "Vinegar Volcano". We talked about what the children knew about Volcanoes. We discussed that this is not like a real volcano but a chemical reaction of the vinegar and baking soda. We also followed up on some of the eggs-periments from previous weeks. We got the egg to go into the bottle: We also followed up on the "naked egg" experiment and talked about "osmosis".
